Introduction
Launched on 1 January 2006, Syndicate 1886 is a non-marine sub-syndicate of umbrella Syndicate 2999 with a capacity of £129m for the 2010 underwriting year.
Syndicate 1886 is managed by QBE Underwriting Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the QBE Insurance Group. It is headed by John Neal as Managing Director.
The syndicate operates on a dual pen basis. The underwriters have QBE underwriting authorities in addition to their existing QBE Insurance (Europe) [QIE] authorities.
By operating on this syndicate basis, Syndicate 1886 will add significantly to QBE's underwriting capabilities and bringing new business to the Lloyd’s market.
Syndicate 1886 forms part of Umbrella Syndicate 2999, which has a total combined capacity of £1bn. The syndicate is managed by QBE Underwriting Limited, being one of the largest managing agents at Lloyd's with £1.365bn of capacity under management. QBE Underwriting Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of the QBE Insurance Group, who provide 100% of the syndicate's capacity.
