Bobby Adams

Bobby graduated from Manchester University in 2004 with a 2:1 degree in Business Economics. After spending eighteen months in the Legal Department at JLT dealing with contracts on the broking side, he got itchy feet and embarked upon a round the world trip, taking in the sights and delights of South East Asia, Australia and Mexico to name but a few places visited.

Bobby returned in the summer of 2006 and through his market connections became aware of a position at the new QBE Aviation Syndicate 5555, and was delighted to accept a role as a General Aviation Underwriting Assistant. He is planning to sit his ACII examinations in the near future.

Outside of work, Bobby likes to spend his spare time playing football. He is also a regular spectator at the Emirates Stadium.

Tony Ambrose

 Tony’s insurance career began in 1990 when he took a gap year as a Non-Marine reinsurance technician prior to going to University. Taking the advice of the schools career advisor he went to Bristol University and then to Queen Mary’s & Westfield where he graduated in Mechanical Engineering with Business Studies. Following a chance meeting with John Lorberg, now of QBE, he went to work for Sturge Aviation Syndicates 960, 545 and 998.

In 1996 Tony transferred with the Aviation syndicates to Equitas seeing an opportunity to gain further experience managing the run off of numerous syndicates in multiple classes gaining promotion to Syndicate Account Manager during this period.

In 2001 Tony was approached by Willis to join their aviation team in London as a Divisional Director in the research team. He was then employed by their American team to perform a combined analytical and broking role which developed into a full broking and Account Executive role on USA and Canadian business, specialising in Airlines and Ground Handling risks.

Tony is married to Karen with two young children, Jessica, and Olivia and enjoys hill walking and golf when time permits. He also enjoys eating out and is the head chef at Chez Ambrose at weekends.

Tony Ambrose

Nick Bridges

Following his Secondary Education at Westcliff High School where he excelled at cricket, Nick graduated from the University of Nottingham in July 2008 with a BA in French and German.  During his gap year he chose to work abroad and found himself teaching English in Marseille to students whose mother tongue was often Arabic.  This endeavour was followed by a semester of four months at the University of Germersheim in South-West Germany.

Following his graduation Nick decided upon a career in Insurance- having always wanted to combine his language skills with a financial position in the City- and chose Aviation as a result of his friendship with a member of the syndicate. He subsequently applied for a post which became available in the General Aviation team at QBE Syndicate 5555.

Nick lives in Leigh-on-Sea and outside of work enjoys golf as well as playing for a local football team each week. Other interests include running and socialising.

Kay Cross

Kay first ventured into insurance as a career by taking some temporary secretarial assignments for Marsh and WIllis, before switching to Underwriting and joining Westminister Aviation Insurance Group in 1999 as permanent staff.

Kay was PA to the Chief Executive at WAIG until he retired and the company was taken over by Allianz in 2001.

At Allianz, Kay was paired up with an Italian gentleman, Emilio Di Silvio, who headed up the London Aviation business. Kay continued to work for Emilio Di Silvio as his PA having followed him to QBE Aviation Syndicate 5555 in 2006

Kay has been married for 28 years (to the same very understanding man!) and lives "out in the sticks" in North Essex. Kay has two children, a daughter and a son, who are both Underwriting Assistants working in the London market for our competitors! In her spare time Kay enjoys working for QBE!

Gillian Doggett
Team Secretary

After completing her A levels in Business Studies, French and English Literature at Chelmer Valley High School, Gillian joined a family run company importing shoes for the major shoe brands across the UK. After this, Gillian decided to venture into recruitment for 2 years for a company called O’Grady Peyton International.

In May 07, Gillian decided she wanted a different career path and was appointed Team Secretary for QBE Aviation Syndicate 5555.

Stuart Farlow

Stuart completed an honours degree in Physics with Space Science and Technology in 2002 at the University of Leicester. Subsequently he obtained a 2:1 Law degree in 2008 having completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course part time at the College of Law, London.

Stuart began his career in Aviation insurance in 2003 as a Claims Adjuster at Xchanging Claims Services at Lloyd’s. He dealt with all classes of Aviation claims (GA, airlines, airports and products) including complex liability claims such as claims arising from 11th September 2001 terrorist attacks in the US.

During his time at XCS Stuart was involved in a variety of projects such as the development, testing and implementation of the Electronic Claims File system (ECF) and the Claims Management Service (CMS).

Stuart Joined QBE as a claims adjuster in November 2006. He handles all classes of Aviation hull and liability losses and maintains his involvement in ECF as the syndicate’s key contact for electronic claims.

Stuart lives near Brands Hatch in Kent and, conveniently, his favourite pursuit is riding motorcycles both on the road and the race track. He likes to keep fit by boxing, running and playing football and in 2008 completed the Flora London Marathon for the first time.

Debra Johnson

Debra Johnson

Debra began her career in Aviation insurance in 1986 working for Willis Faber as a Claims Broker progressing to Senior Broker handling claims for all classes of aviation business from major airline to small product manufacturers.

In 1992 she became a Placing Broker on the Products & Airports team, eventually moving to the Airline team as a Senior Placing Broker.

In 1996 she joined AIG as Deputy Claims Manager where she managed claims for a wide range of clients and travelled internationally to perform claims reviews, implement the production of Claims Handling Procedures and discuss issues arising from specific losses.

In 2004 she joined St Paul Travelers Syndicate as Aviation Claims Manager focusing on General Aviation insurance.

After a brief period at Allianz, Debra started working at Syndicate 5555 at the beginning of September 2006.

Debra is married with two young children. She is a keen runner and completed the London Marathon in 2005 and 2007. In her spare time she enjoys her family, entertaining, swimming, sailing skiing and cycling.

Melissa Kac

Melissa completed her 2:1 degree in Mathematics at the University of Hertfordshire in 2004.

She then joined the aviation insurance market to work for Ace Global markets. Melissa worked at AGM for two years assisting all lines of aviation. She is now studying for the ACII qualification and is assisting on the Airlines team at QBE Aviation Syndicate 5555. Melissa’s goal is to become an assistant underwriter in the near future.

Melissa lives with her boyfriend in Essex. She also enjoys socialising with friends and regularly attends a gym.

Prior to discovering the world of insurance Matt studied at the Sixth Form College in Colchester. Since then he has accrued over 12 years in the Insurance Market, starting his career in Personal Lines and then on to Commercial Insurance within the Capita Group.

In 2002 he joined the Willis General Aviation team as an account manager and after 1 year he moved into the Aviation broking team concentrating on the GA Book. In August 2006 he joined the AON General Aviation broking team where he remained until recently becoming a member of the GA Underwriting team here at QBE.

Matt lives in Colchester, Essex and enjoys participating in all types of sports and is currently enjoying his football in his favoured left wing position for his local team, Elmstead Athletic. In addition to this and supporting Liverpool FC he recently married his long term girlfriend Hayley who has just given birth to their first child Fleur.

Kirsty Molineaux

Kirsty finished her A-Levels in French, English Literature, Psychology and History in 2005 at West Hatch Sixth Form.

She started at JLT Risk solutions in August 2005 where she worked as an Aviation claims broker for a year.

Kirsty now works with the GA Underwriting team at QBE Aviation Syndicate 5555 where she is working towards her ACII qualification; eventually planning to become an Underwriter herself.

Kirsty enjoys a very busy, diverse social life and particularly enjoys the cinema, theatre and keeping fit.

Marko Ninkovic

Marko began his career in Aviation insurance in 1996 as a paralegal working for an international law consultancy handling aviation related claims. He then moved to a major London insurance broker and worked in their Aviation Claims department before setting out on a round the world trip by train through Russia, Mongolia and China.

Marko ended up in Sydney, Australia, thinking he would perhaps spend six months there. In fact, he spent the next four years working as a lawyer for a leading Australian law firm specialising in Aviation related litigation work and Aviation regulatory matters. Whilst there, he represented a number of international airlines, Australian regional airlines, GA operators, airport operators as well as their insurers.

He returned to the UK in 2002 getting a position in Lloyd’s as an Aviation Liability Consultant. From there he moved to a major international aviation insurance company where he was handling a number of complex liability claims. Marko joined Syndicate 5555 at the beginning of September 2006.

Marko is a practising solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He is also qualified as a solicitor in New South Wales, Australia.

Marko enjoys playing tennis, skiing and hiking as well as travelling to distant destinations.
He was a member of a UK based organisation representing the Serbian diaspora in the UK and served on the executive committee between 2003 and 2006. He also enjoys reading and writing short stories. Marko is married to Abi and they have a son.

Paul Rogers

Following on from Epsom College Trehane attended the University of Essex where he read Politics. In 1987 Trehane joined the Graduate training programme of a major London broker. After two years in the reinsurance area he transferred to the aviation specialism.

Secondments in Argentina and Mexico followed and these combined with operating in the London market have given Trehane wide experience of dealing with clients from all sectors of aviation. In recent years he has run and developed a family retail business in the South West of the UK, from where he returned to the aviation market to work for QBE.

Married with two children Trehane enjoys dinghy sailing and golf. He also holds a PPL which he obtained whilst living in Argentina.

Paul Rogers

Paul started working for Westminster Aviation Insurance Group in late 1995 as an underwriting assistant. He moved to the claims department where he spent four years claims adjusting.

Paul returned to the Underwriting team in November 2001, working on the General account, initially specialising in UK light aircraft business before moving into the other areas of the GA book.

Paul continued to underwrite on the GA account where he was involved with all aspects of GA including light aircraft, turbine aircraft and jets both fixed and rotor-wing. Paul has recently completed his ACII qualification to complement more than 10 years in aviation insurance.

Paul is married with a young daughter and lives in Tonbridge, Kent. He spends much of his spare time riding his Yamaha R6 motorcycle. He also enjoys playing and watching football.

Alex Seymour

Alex started working for R W Sturge syndicate 960 working for Brian Beagley in 1981 as an underwriting assistant and gained his underwriting scratch in 1984. The syndicate wrote all classes of aviation business.

In 1995 Alex joined Robert Malatier Limited the London office of La Reunion Aerienne underwriting all aviation classes.

Three years later Alex joined Emilio at Cox syndicate 734 which was a London market specialist in general aviation.

Then, in October 2002 the Cox team migrated to Allianz to write a specialist book of General Aviation.

“What I enjoy about General Aviation is the huge diversity of aircraft types ranging from; gliders costing a few thousand pounds to helicopters with their many applications through to multi million dollar executive jets which in some cases are like expensive pampered toys”

Alex lives near Sudbury in Suffolk, and is married with three children who take up most of his spare time. When time permits he also enjoys fly fishing.

Selina Smith

Born in Knutsford and educated in Cheshire Selina graduated with Honours at Manchester Metropolitan University in Accounting and Finance in 1994.Selina’s first job was at an invoice discounting company quickly followed by a move to Umbro HQ in Cheshire to pursue her professional training where she qualified as an ACCA (Association Certified Chartered Accountant) in 1997.

Bravely moving South to London to find a career in investment banking Selina was lured back to home and into insurance by a position as a strategic analyst for Life Insurance at Royal London.

In 2003 Selina finally found a role that suited her goals with a major London insurer as the Controlling Manager within the Finance Department working closely with the underwriters of the business.

From there Selina secured an opportunity at QBE and joined QBE Aviation Syndicate in November 2006. Selina also shyly admits to being fluent in Cantonese and French.

Married with one child, living in Essex although still a Knutsford girl at heart she still supports Manchester United. Selina admits to a handicap of 36 and so would like to play more golf and travel (time and baby permitting).

Mark Sperring

After finishing sixth form college as Head of the sixth form and gaining his A Levels in Geography, Information Technology and English, Mark decided upon a career in insurance. He always enjoyed aviation as a young boy attending air-shows and airports and always thought it would be the most interesting area of insurance.

By chance, an opportunity presented itself in July 2001 as a processing technician for ACE Global Markets on the aviation side.

In 2003, after constantly pestering the Aviation Department for an opportunity, Mark started as an underwriting assistant on a box in Lloyds under the tutelage of John Green. Mark gained a great deal of exposure to the different classes in the aviation sector ranging from underwriting tuition and experiences such as the Airclaims adjusting course.

In early 2006 Mark became an Assistant Underwriter at AGM 2488, working and gaining experience on all classes, including Products and Airports, Airline and GA.

In September of the same year he decided to move to the new aviation syndicate at QBE to take up a role as Assistant Underwriter on Products and Airports side working alongside Graham Daldry, whom he had worked with previously at ACE.

Mark lives in Leigh-on-Sea and enjoys playing football, going to the gym, skiing, socialising and running - he completed to 2008 marathon.

Mark Sperring

Adam’s career started in 1990 with Jardine Thompson Graham working with the Aviation Reinsurance Excess of Loss Team.  In 1992 he joined Terra Nova, again on the Aviation Reinsurance side.

In 1994 Adam had the opportunity to move into the direct side of Aviation Insurance with the British Aviation Insurance Group, now Global Aerospace.  He worked his way up from Underwriting Assistant to Underwriter until May 2008 when he joined the QBE Airline Team.

Adam is married with one child.  He is an avid Tottenham Hotspur and Essex Cricket Club fan.

Annemarie Thomson

After she had finished business school in 1987, Annemarie started as an office apprentice in a company dealing with laboratory equipment. For three years she spent her evenings at business school studying English. After six years with petri dishes and test tubes, she thought it was time to move on and she started as a temp in Nordic Aviation Insurance Group (NAIG) as underwriting assistance.

Annemarie stayed at NAIG (which turned into NAI and later QBENAI) as permanent staff but she shifted more and more towards secretarial assignments and internal IT support. As from 2001 she has been full time secretary – primarily assisting Claus Bang Hansen - and IT support.

Holder of a Diploma in Specialized Business Studies.
