A pioneering marine energy device has begun its trial at the FabTest centre in Falmouth Bay, Cornwall.

The BOLT Lifesaver, a 16-metre-wide steel device, begun its trial a few days ago and if it proves successful it could be plugged in to the Wave Hub experimental socket on the seabed of nearby Hayle.

Tore Gulli, project director, told the West Briton that "wave energy is too important not to go for on a large scale" before adding that the world needs it.

Marine energy has been a hot topic for discussion in recent years with the South West of England named as the UK's first Marine Energy Park in January.

The FabTest centre is not connected to the National Grid as yet and offers developers the chance to perform tests on products in an accessible region.
